Markers
Markers can be placed on the timeline in several ways. This guide shows some examples of how to do it using keyboard commands.
[Return] key
Use the Return key, essentially the same as the "Drop marker" button on the bottom of the interface, to place a marker of the last selected type. This will allow you to provide the marker with a written comment. If you do not want to comment immediately, press Return again (or ESC) to close the inspector.
[Esc] key
Use the escape [esc] to close the inspector when open.
[Down arrow] key
Use the Down arrow to place a marker of the last selected type without opening the input selector. This is what we call a silent marker.
Numeric keys [1-8]
Place a marker of a selected type using the numeric keys 1-8.
1 - Dialog 5 - Generic,
2 - Music 6 - Voice Over
3 - FX 7 - ADR
4 - Foley 8 - Background / Ambience
[Shift] + [Arrow left / Arrow right ]
Step through markers by selecting one, and use the above keyboard shortcut to jump to the next or previous one.
Tip: Right-click on a marker to make changes, move it, etc.
Controlling Video
In a nutshell, the playback shortcuts [J]-[K]-[L] in conjunction with the frame seek commands [,] and [.] to find the exact frame are all you need to know.
Play/Pause – Space or K
The space bar is a universal play/pause button in many applications, and Mixstage is no exception. Alternatively, the 'K' key offers the same functionality. It's centrally located, making it easy to access while using other keyboard shortcuts.
Jump back / forward 5 seconds – [J] / [L]
Seek in frames - [.] / [,]
To find the right spot, move the play head forward or backward using [,] and [.]
To move a marker to the playhead position, right-click it and select move marker to playhead position.
Conclusion
Keyboard Shortcuts in MixStage can be productivity boosters. Integrating them into your workflow allows you to work faster, smarter, and more precisely.
